The Forms of Language
Language is something that we usually think of in terms of words, whether written or spoken. But, languages can also be expressed with symbols (like the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt) or marks (like the ancient cuneiforms). Languages can be gestural (like sign language or interpretive dance). Language can be pure sound or pure color.
Each creative art has its own language. Artists of all varieties create unique languages with the elements of their art form.
Nature speaks to us, too, through the expression of the elements of wind and rain, clouds and light, snow and sleet. It is a language in and of itself.
